Dr. Brendon Ferrier
Dr. Brendon Ferrier is a Senior Lecturer at Edinburgh Napier University and Co-Founder of The Surf Lab, a pioneering research partnership with Lost Shore Surf Resort that harnesses Europe’s largest inland wave pool. With a PhD in Biomechanics from Edith Cowan University, his research has advanced understanding of aerial surfing and surf performance, while also expanding into areas of surf therapy, adaptive surfing, and health.
Brendon has worked with organisations such as the Australian Institute of Sport, Surfing Australia, and the Scottish Institute of Sport, and recently served as Head of Performance Support for Scottish Surfing. At The Surf Lab, he leads applied research that combines sport science, health, and industry innovation, from developing sustainable wetsuit technology for the world’s largest rental fleet to running controlled-wave studies that inform health and wellbeing interventions.
Through his expertise in biomechanics, performance, and applied surf science, Brendon ensures that research into surfing’s health benefits is methodologically rigorous, innovative, and connected to wider sport and industry networks.
